   bjcooper I need prayers for my granddaughter.We just got the news that she has been run over,and been life flighted to a trauma hospital.Chelsea is eighteen,and graduated this past spring.Please pray for Chelsea.Thank you

   bjcooper We talked to one of her doctors a little while ago.He told us that there is bruising on her left side of her brain,and that is what is causing her to be in a coma.He is hopeful that if she wakes up in the next few hours,that she will be fine.They also had to drain fluid off her left lung.Please keep her in your prayers tonight.Thank you!

   bjcooper The accident happened in Crockett.They stabilized her there,and lifeflighted her to Tyler.The news this morning is that Chelsea is still in a coma,and the doctors are planning to insert a tube to try and relieve the pressure.Finding out more of what happened,Chelsea was riding on the hood of a friends truck,they hit a bump and she slid off under the wheel.I have preached on how dangerous that was,but what does grandma know.I just realized,its Chelseas mom and dad's 19th wedding anniversary today.Thank you for your prayers and thoughts.

Oh my goodness. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please continue to keep us updated on Chelsea's condition. I have a 19 year old son and I know how stubborn they can be when they feel I we are being "old".

What a horrible accident. I have 2 teens about that age & they think they are indestructible. As for us parents, please don't give any advice for we do not have "experience". I just don't understand why they don't listen. My thoughts & prayers are with you. I have even shared this with my church for xtra prayers... Cheri

   bjcooper My daughter called a little while ago.Chelsea is still in a coma.They did another cat scan this morning,but haven't got results yet.Thank you for your support,it is a big help for me.This on top of losing the sister-in-law that I loved like a sister last month,and trying to be strong for my family,its comforting to come here and talk to you all.My sister-in-law lost her battle to cancer and diabetes but Chelsea is only eighteen and looking forward to a long life.I have her graduation picture right here on my desk,with her beautiful smile looking at me,remembering when she brought it to me in May.I will let all of you know when I hear the results of the cat scan.

   bjcooper The news today is better.The neurologist told my daughter that Chelsea is showing signs that she could be coming out of it.Unfortunatly Chelsea has developed Pnumonia in her lower left lung that had fluid in it after the accident.They started her on antibiotics right away.

   bjcooper I'm trying to keep myself together.Chelsea has good days and then not so good.She was running a fever again today,and they where going to check her lungs today to see how that was doing.She hasn't spoken yet,but is poening her eyes more.The last two days I have been going with my husband to doctors.The one he saw today was a specialist for ear,nose and throat.His voice has been so hoarse fof several months now.After she examined him,I was called back to the exam room.She told me that he has a large mass growing on his left vocal cord.He has to have a c-scan in the morning,andthen I guess will have to wait and see when they'll do surgery.I like to think I'm a strong person,but I find myself just shaking in side.Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers,I really need them.

Here is a giant {{{HUG}}} and yes! Do remember to take care of yourself...or you will not be of any help to your hubby or the rest of the family.

Please know that all of us are thinking of you and praying long and hard.

I remember someone telling me...God hasn't given me anything I cannot handle...though I think HE and I have different definitions of that.

Just make sure you take time for you...to allow your mind and body to rest and heal...before you take off again.

   bjcooper I talked to my youngest daughter today,and she told me that her sister had called last night and said that the doctors were going to start medications today trying to bring Chelsea the rest of the way out of her coma.I guess the doctors are also talking about sending her to Dallas,to the medical center at Baylor University.Chelsea will need rehab when she is out of the coma.They won't know the extent of the damage to her brain,or how much rehab she will require.Thank you for thoghts and prayers,they are so appreciated.

That sounds like a great move. BJ, I know from experience that Baylor Dallas is #1 when it comes to trauma. They are wonderful doctors and nurses and they helped my family when my son had a serious head injury. If I ever have need a trauma hospital, you can believe it will be Baylor Dallas.
If they send her up here let me know so I can send her some flowers or help your daughter know where to go or not to go in the Dallas area.

I hope things with your husband are better.

   bjcooper That is good to know.I talked to my daughter this morning and she says Chelsea was having a good day today.She's missing her brother who had to come home because school started.He managed to get her to smile for him before he left.She has tried to speak,but its hard with that tube in her throat.My daughter says Chelsea is more alert today.Thank you for your offer,I'll tell my daughter.

   bjcooper Thank you all for your prayers.We just found out that the doctor has scheduled my husband surgery for the 8th of next month.I'm glad of that because he is having trouble swallowing food now.I guess that mass has grown.I'm still hoping that its benign.

   bjcooper Chelsea has improved enough for the doctors in Tyler to have her transferred to Dallas.She is at level 14,just one more level for them to consider her out of the coma.Then she begins her rehab.

   bjcooper Good news on two fronts.Chelsea is making great strides in her rehab.She is able to make a small sentences,and have people understand her.She also managed to dress herself the other day for first time since she came out of coma.She also has been eating for herself(without a feeding tube),for two days now.The other good news is my husband is doing fine.The doctor took biopsies in six areas,all looked fine except for one area,that was precancerous,but she got it all.The doctor told him to avoid talking for several days.Thats been hard on him!So again thank you all for your prayers,they do work.

   bjcooper Yesterday,my husband and I made a trip to Dallas with our youngest daughter and children,along with Chelseas two sisters and her brother for a surprise visit.Chelsea surprised us by walking down the hall to the family visiting room where we wre waiting.She looks so good,her smile so beautiful.She is making such progress that she might make it home before Thanksgiving.That would truly be a day of thanks for this family.I told her about the the good thoughts and prayers she was getting from the DP board.She said really.Then she said for me to thank all of you.So again from myself and Chelsea,thank you!

   bjcooper Chelsea continues to improve each day,and my husband and I are so thankful for that.My husbands doctor gave us news yesterday that has us numb.The part of his biopsy that she sent to a indepentant lab,the results came back positive for cancer.We are waiting for an appointment time at M.D.Anderson in Houston.I couldn't even tell my oldest daughter,I had my youngest daughter tell her.My whole family is shook.I have to keep myself together in front of my family,so I hope you guys don't mind me falling apart here.

I am happy to hear about your granddaughters improvement. I will continue to pray for your husband. I use to clean house for a lady that got throat cancer. she wound up having one vocal cord and 1/2 of her voice box removed and had to go thru chemo and radiation but she is doing great. It did affect her voice but she can still talk and has been cancer free for 7 years now.

   bjcooper Thank you.We need them.My husband hasn't even started treatment yet,because the VA hasn't approved his treatment at MD Anderson.They want to have their doctors look now.So we go to Temple,Tx.on Friday.The doctor that they approved to do the biopsy is frustrated,doesn't want the delays,because she says it was caught so early that the prognosis is good.We don't have any other health insurance so we have to go with what the VA says.

I just read this post today. I cannot IMAGINE your fear for your granddaughter and your husband. God sure did lay a lot on your shoulders. But, I'm a firm believer that he never gives you more than you can take.

I am praying and will continue to pray for you Granddaughter and your Husband. Chelsea seems to be improving by leaps and bounds.

I know how it is to be strong in front of your family, but PLEASE come to the board to "let it all out"!!!!! That's what we're here for.

Please, Please - take time for just "You". You'll never be able to keep it together unless you do. I found that out the hard way. Even if it's reading a favorite book or magazine. But, I think the best help is a goood nights sleep. If you're having trouble with that, talk with your doctor about it. You MUST have it especially with all that is weighing heavily on you.

Know that you and your family are thought of and prayed for!!!!

   bjcooper We finally heard from the cancer center in Palestine,Tx. today.Thats where the VA has okayed my husbands chemo and radiation treatments.At least thats only a little over a hour drive from here,instead of three and a half hours over to Temple,Tx.We had to go over there twice last week.After my husband seen a specialist the last trip over,he told us he was mystified why the VA had delayed starting his treatment.He said he was writing right away telling them he concurred with Dr. Duncans diagnoses.To get my husbands treatment started.I'm so reliefed that finally the treatments are starting,but nervous to.Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

   bjcooper Thank you !A little shaky this morning.Both my husband and I had a hard time sleeping last night.I keep thinking about that last doctor saying that treatment should have started a month ago.I prayed every night that the cancer wasn't growing.About Chelsea,she is doing great.Her mom is a nervous wreck,trying not to be over protective.

   bjcooper My husband is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow,to place a feeder tube in his stomach.It'll take two weeks to rec over,then he starts chemo and radiation treatments for 6-8 weeks.Please keep us in your prayers.
