"The Maveric- Great Read"

I downloaded The Maverick last night in ebook format. I laughed so much I cried reading this book. There is a murder mystery but Harley and Alice are so funny communicating. We learn about Harley's past as well and Kilraven's.

Make sure you read the dedication in the book, there is a nice surprise

How does this ebook-thing work?
What version is best? Adobe PDF, or others?

Do you have to read it on your computer?
I guess you can't print it?
What about these portable "ebook-machines" (can't remember what they're called), are they any good?

Being as impatient as I am, I have to start considering new approaches to get hold of
the books as soon as possible

I read the preview on eharlequin, and I'm soooo wanting to have the book now!!
My order on amazon.co.uk is not here soon enough

I just read my ebooks on my lap top. You can also read them on your desk top or a ebook reader. If you go to eharelequin.com and buy a ebook it had a place where you can clique on to get a free ebook reader on your computer. I use adobe digital editions and adobe reader

I couldn't wait for my hard copy so I down loaded the book yesterday. It was a cute story I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did... I can't wait to see where Jon and Kilraven's story goes. I can't wait to see who is the bad guy, I think I know but I always like to see what Ms Palmer does...

My book arrived yesterday through eHarlequin. I had them rush delivery. I loved it and can't wait for the next book to continue the mystery.

There are many, many options with ebooks. While there is no universal format at this time, Adobe Reader (PDF) is as close as it comes and a fairly safe bet since there are so many programs available to read them with and they are readable on more devices than the other formats.

EBOOK READING DEVICES AND WHAT FORMATS THEY READ:

Sony eReader - reads Adobe¨ PDF, ePub, JPEG, BBeB¨, RTF, and TXT
http://www.sonystyle.com/

Amazon Kindle - Kindle format and Mobipocket (I think)
http://www.amazon.com/

Cool-er - PDF, EPUB, FB2, RTF, TXT, HTML, PRC, JPG AND MP3
http://www.coolreaders.com/

B&N Nook - PDF, EPUB, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/

The following are for anyone who wants to try/experiment with ebooks before spending money on them. These are 100% legal. Free to download in whichever format you want.

http://www.thesamhellion.com/ebooks.htm - Romance/Erotic Romance very short stories. No registration or anything like that required. Available in PDF format only.

http://www.baen.com/library/ -- Fantasy Novels

http://www.jasminejade.com/c-115-free-reads.aspx (registration required, but it's FREE and no credit card information is required) You can also click on the Cerridwen link toward the bottom and get the free reads from there.

http://www.harlequincelebrates.com/ (numerous free books from Harlequin and it's different lines, no idea how long this link will be active)

http://www.allromanceebooks.com/category180.html (registration required, but it's FREE and no Credit card information required, although it will say pay with credit card when you go to check out)

http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/ (mixed, classics, public domain books)

http://www.e-book.com.au/freebooks.htm (mixed)

http://www.suvudu.com/freelibrary/ (books available changes on a monthly basis, usually the first book in a series)

* * * * *
The following is a list of programs needed to read the different formats. They are all free downloads.

READER PROGRAMS:

ADOBE PDF - http://get.adobe.com/reader/

MOBIPOCKET - http://www.mobipocket.com...productdetailsreader.asp

MS READER (LIT) - http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ (has to be activated, but it's easy -- just follow the instructions)

HTML - just use your web browser (Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc)

A bit more info on these. PDF and HTML formats are printable unless they are DRM files, meaning protected. MS Reader is formatted to look more like a single book page, and Mobipocket is the smallest of the formats, meaning it takes up far less space than any of the other formats do. You can also take a text, HTML, or Word file and turn it into Mobipocket format very easily with the desktop program that comes with the download for Mobipocket. Most HTML book files will come zipped, so something like Winzip will be needed to open it. It'll be a file and a folder when unzipped. The folder contains stuff like the cover and things like that.

You can also use programs like Stanza or Calibre to organize and convert ebooks into other formats. Calibre will take an HTML file and turn it into either EPUB, PDF or MOBI formats. Both are free programs. Just go to Google and type the names into the search bar.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

i have a sony PRS600 touch screen however my old PRS505 had a better screen contrast. I dont now buy many "real" books I buy all ebooks as I dont have to give anybooks away & I can take my whole libray away on holiday with me insead of loads of heavy books.
I still will buy some books like my DP's but I must say once you get used to it i would not go back to buying all real books and as some of you may know I dont see well and you can increase font size on the reader so it makes reading much easier, one bit of advice if you dont have the Kindle shop around for books as the price varies a lot from site to site.
You will be pleased to learn there are lots of DP books in ebook format I have over 20 so far but have not bought all available. i also downloaded The recruit at the same time as The Maverick that is a holiday read When i go away next week

Thank you Mac and Alliebal for your information!!

I must look into all the various ways of Ebook-formats.

I have looked at Kindle from Amazon, it looks great.
But can I only buy from Amazon then? My knowledge of these things are scarce indeed, so stupid questions will have to be asked
I want to be able to download from whereever I want. And the device must be simple to use and read from.
The problem with downloading it to a computer is having to scroll down, use the mouse etc, and end up with painful muscleaches.
I work at a computer all day, so I do not wish to sit hours in front a screen when I come home aswell.

Grateful for any answers.

Tiggy

I may be wrong but I think if you buy the Kindle you can only buy from amazon, with mine I buy books from where ever I can I am in the UK and buy a lot of my books from US sites.
I buy my books in EPUB & PFD formats and it works well on my reader I have in a case with a light in it it works well and its a bit like holding a book as the screen does not have a back light there is no strain on your eyes and the sony libray is easy to use one tip if you download Adobe digital editions on 1st download make sure you autherise your computer as if you dont you wont be able to move your books from 1 computer/device to another this can only be done the 1st time you download digital editions otherwise you wont be able to read your books !!

I hope this has been of some help

Thanks ever so much!!

A Sony PRS is on my Christmas Wish list, then

I have checked it out on the net, and it looks great!

The Kindle looked great too, the only problem is that I live just across the North sea from you, and I wouldn't be able to download books in my own language. Norwegian publishers didn't like the deal Amazon offered them, so I guess Kindle is not an option for the time being.
