Amelia Glenn, born Christmas day, aged 28, from Seagrove (a small coastal town near Savannah, Georgia) grew up working in her parents' print shop before moving to Chicago. She chose it because her mother Peggy had fond memories of her Navy Veteran station nearby. Described (on p.6) as lean and tanned from head to toe, with a figure that could model bikinis year round. She has long, thick, dark hair and pale blue dancing eyes that can sometimes look grey, framed by black lashes. She has a perfect complexion and features as perfect as a cameo, although she describes herself as too thin and her face as having odd angles (p.156). Worth thinks she looks like a fairy (p.117). She is adventurous, outdoorsy and passionate, an elemental person. She could have married newspaperman Henry Janrett back home, but wanted something more exciting. She drives an ancient battered old Ford. She lives in a garage apartment near the water, with retired old couple (the Kennedy's) and shares thei!
r cat, Khan, a puffy Siamese-Persian. She works as a clerk typist at an agricultural equipment company.
Wentworth Carson, born Christmas eve, aged 40, is described (p.7) as big, formidable, business-like and ice-cold. He has a big, faintly Roman nose, bushy eyebrows and a pugnacious chin, looking more like a wrestler than an executive. He has dark brown, almost black eyes with black rims. He has straight black hair falling onto a broad forehead, a deeply tanned throat with dark chest hair and huge hands and feet. His body is big, broad and sensuous and hairy all over. He drives a Mercedes and a Rolls for his grandmother, whom he has a soft spot for. He had a brother, Jackie, 2 years younger than him who was killed in Vietnam near De Nang, where they both were Marines. They were raised by their grandmother after their parents were killed and Jackie, the wild child, was always the favorite. His grandmother describes him as serious and used to second-hand love. Worth is a self-made man, hired by his architect cousin between college classes and working his way up to executive by !
graduation. Worth inherits the company after his death and turns it into Carson Constructions, with building interests in USA and South America. He almost married his secretary, Connie, but discovered she was only after his money and that she hated his grandmother.3) Storyline: Amelia is roped into belly dancing for Worth's birthday at his office as a practical joke. For revenge, Worth gets Amy to belly dance at La Pierre, embarrassing Andy, the original joker. She turns up at Chez Pierre, and gets arrested, photographed and loses her job. After confronting Worth at home, his grandmother hires her as a private secretary, after admiring her spunk. Worth shares her skills as a secretary and some chemistry develops. The relationship reaches boiling point when his grandmother has a heart attack and Worth is distraught the night before her bypass operation. Amy offers herself and her virginity as a 'distraction' to the stress. After reassuring him that she won't fall pregnant, she does. But their mutual guilt and misunderstandings ruin things. Worth travels to Bogota, Columbia for work and is gone for weeks. Amy leaves his home and grandmother, and moves back with her parents. On his return home, he pursues her and brings her back on the p!
remise that his grandmother misses her. But it is really Worth who can't live without her, and when he finds she is pregnant, he can no longer hide his feelings.4) Back-cover blurb:

She likes hard rock (Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Prince and Lionel Ritchie), very racy movies, flirts outrageously with men and can out drink them. She has a bad temper and can swear like a sailor.
Grandpa is Amelia's maternal grandfather and calls her 'my heart' and states she is the best of 15 grandkids. He was a hell-raiser and remains a flinty character. He was a fisherman until he lost his boat, and now does odd jobs. When his wife died of a heart attack in their garden, it 'took the color out of the world' for him.
Carson family servants are: Baxter the butler, Carolyn the maid, Harry the yardman, and Mrs. Reed, the cook.
Mr. Callaghan, aged 60, was Amelia's stingy boss and is half her size, bald head with narrow eyes and thick glasses.

2) Main characters:
Hero – Ramon Cortero escaped from Havana-Cuba at the age of 10 with his parents. He is now in his late thirties and he is a worldly famous cardiac surgeon. He is tall and he has black eyes in a lean and darkly handsome face. While performing surgeries he likes to listen to the rock group based in Wyoming DESPERADO. He works in 3 hospitals St. Mary’s Hospital, O’Keefe’s City Hospital and Emory University Hospital.He widowed 2 years ago. His late wife Isadora Kensington was Noreen’s Cousin. Ramon met Isadora 6 years before in a charity dinner and married each other just 2 months later, and after only 2 months of marriage, Ramon found out about his big mistake. Isadora was blond; blue eyed and beautiful, outgoing, gregarious and always flirting. She was also very shallow and selfish. Isadora was very jealous of Noreen looking for ways and ways to put Noreen down. She used to tell everyone lies about Ramon not liking animals and children. Isadora had also a lover even before their marriage, Larry. She used to smoke a lot and in her last months was drinking too much. She died of pneumonia complications while Ramon was in France for a conference. Noreen was taking care of her, but had a collapse at the staircase looking for help after a breakout.
While declaring his love to Noreen he mention a song nominated to the Academy award that says that when a man loves a woman, really loves her, he can his unborn children in her eyes.
Ramon favorite author is Pio Baroja. He also loves to listen to the group Desperado (lead singer Amanda's story is Sutton's Way and other band Member Hank's book is Redbird)
Heroine – Noreen Kensington, 25 years old. She is a nurse at the cardiac unit at O’Keefe City Hospital (across the street of St. Mary’s Hospital, where Ramon performed most of his surgeries). Noreen has long legs, slender body and a nice shape. Her face is oval shaped and very ordinary with beautiful gray eyes. Her hair is something between blond and light brown and very, very long. She dresses shapeless and her face shows characteristics of her heart condition. She is very shy, reserved and conscious. The only person that seemed to bring her bad temper out is Ramon, something she never thought she had.
Noreen was raised by Hall and Mary Kensington after her parents died in a car crash when she was just a kid. She was treated more like a servant than like a member of the family. She’d been Isadora’s private servant, her aunt’s social secretary and her uncle’s go-for. It was only after Isadora marriage that Noreen left home and the Kensington hired a full time housekeeper.
Her favorite author is also Pio Baroja.

Both main characters parents are already dead.
4) Storyline:
Noreen Kensington a nurse with a broken heart in many ways fell in love with Dr. Ramon Cordero a worldly famous cardiac surgeon after their first meeting 6 years ago, when he had only eyes for the beautiful Isadora, her shallow and selfish cousin. Isadora dies after complications from pneumonia and Dr. Ramon and her uncle and aunt blames Noreen Kensington for her death. They never knew she also had a close call at the same day.
After she collapses in a Marta bus on her way to the job, Ramon operates her never knowing who Jane Joe was in the operation table. After surgery without the oxygen mask he finds who was Jane Doe, her long time condition and what really happened when Isadora died. And try everything to get back her trust after many years treating her very badly he knows it will be very hard.
In the end they made their peace in a small wedding with the blessing of her uncle and aunt.

Hall is bald and is a member of the yacht club and Mary has platinum blonde hair like her late daughter Isadora, she does charitable work. They are very wealth.
Dr. Myers – He is a cardiac surgeon from Macon, and is supposed to operate Noreen. He was visiting a friend at Atlanta in the same building Isadora and Ramon used to live when he was called to attend a girl that had collapsed at the staircase, the same day Isadora died.
Brad Donaldson – He is a technician, and a good one at O’Keefe Hospital. He started there with Noreen about the same time 4 years ago. Her only real friend, although just a friendship from colleagues, he knows about her secret. He is very much in love for a young lady doctor who works as a resident in the emergency room. An unrequited love too. He is blond and is allergic a cat.
Polly Plimm – a plump little tornado, she is a nurse who works on special cases for Dr. Ramon, having retired just the year before, her lack of industry was beginning to atrophy her bones. She is her fifties, a cozy, kind woman, who enjoys knitting.info by Renata

GENE NELSON: - age 34. He was very noticeable, and he knew it. Lean dark face, pale green eyes (like wet peridot's) under lashes as thick and black as his straight hair, high cheekbones square chin with a hint of a cleft in it. Gene is also tall lean, and lithe, with wide shoulders and narrow hips and long powerful legs. He also has a soft cold laugh.
He also had a pretty formidable reputation locally with women. It's also in his nature to hit when he was angry, he can be droll and faintly sarcastic but underneath all that he can be a caring man
Gene has found out in the last six months the man he always thought was his father was not, he'd adopted him when he was four years old. His real father is in prison
Gene is going from bad to worse at the moment, women, liquor, fighting. He had the business head for the family business and he was good at organization but in his fathers will his job role was switched with Dwight's now he has to run the daily routine of working cattle everyday which he hates.

Gene is instantly attracted to Allison from when they first meet. He finds she has a calming effect on him which is a new set of feeling for him. She has an oval face, her eyes and mouth are her best feature, she also has a small waist, full hips and long elegant legs (p6) has a quiet and calming face an oddly compassionate but she has a glow about her. Allison is running from the media who had followed her from Central America to Tucson. Allison was working as a missionary there with her parents as a registered nurse. A war broke out between two opposing factions and the family were taken prisoners. Allison's parents were shot dead in front of her. The information causes Gene to run wild, drink heavily, womanize and pick fights, until he meets Allison. Allison falls in love at first sight but tries to fight her feelings due to her upbringing. At the same time Gene is also fighting the strong desire he is feeling for Allison. Day by day their feeling grow until one night they become lovers. Allison feels guilty afterwards and ashamed and Gene just feels angry at her.
Allison wants to run away but cannot due to Dwight being nearly killed and needing a nurse to care for him once they let him home. Jacob Cade- Ower of the Warlance Ranch. Tall , lithe, green eyes, with
dark hair. Kicked Kate off the ranch and for forbide her to ever come
back, when he caught her in the pool house naked, held by her date , after
she had been frightened by a snake. He wouldn't believe the story about a
snake and thought she had loose morals. He has been known to be a less
than perfect driver, and has wreaked many cars. Has secretly longed for
Kate, even carrying her picture around in his wallet for years.Kate Walker- Has dark long hair, with green eyes and an effin face. Is a
political newspaper reporter in Chicago. . She has loved Jacob since she
was young and moved to South Dakota to live with her grandmother. Kate
spent her young years with her brother and father who was a lay minister
and had a brain tumor, which drove him mad and he abused his kids ,
finally dying in the parking lot of a store as he was beating Kate for
looking at a boy. She was ordered off Jacob ranch after the pool
incident.
They met up again when Jacob's niece and Kate best friend got married.
After some tense moments, Jaocb offered to treat Kate to dinner the next
time he was in Chicago. The date was ended by distastously after they made
love, and kate being a virgin and Jacob not knowing it had hurt her and
she had hurt him too by telling him it was the worst thing that has ever
happen to her. Kate took a dangerous job on the police beat to her her
stay busy so the mermories of that night would be keep at bay. Jacob was
so eaten by guilt he made up a story to Kate's brother, Tom, that he
needed to speak with them. As Jacob and Tom wait for Kate to come home
from, Kate had covered a terrorist shooting, and was shot herself. As a
result of her injury she had to have someone take care of her, and Jaob

Cy can still throw a knife with amazing accuracy and has instincts that are still as sharp as when he was a mercenary.

Lisa wears glasses and her usual clothes are jeans and a t-shirt. Lisa is a Jacobsville girl, who married Walt Monroe, while Walt was on the rebound. Lisa had a farm Walt wanted and she couldn't run it alone. Walt went undercover in Manuel Lopez's drug organization and was killed his first night in the group. Lisa is left alone and pregnant after only two months of marriage. Lisa loves being a housewife and vows to take care of her baby and provide for him/her. Lisa decides to sell her ranch to Cy and then has to live at his ranch for protection, as Manual Lopez makes several attempts to kill her and remind others never to cross him because their entire family will be at risk.Lisa and Cy marry so that Lisa is protected from Lopez but a marriage of convenience turns into a marriage of love. Cy worries about the age difference but Lisa quickly shows Cy that this "Winter Soldier" can't live without her love.

Lisa is pregnant at the end of the book with Cy's child...the pregnancy at the beginning of the book was actually a mix-up at the lab and Lisa was never pregnant by Walt. We find out in "Lawman" that Lisa and Cy loose their little boy and that Lisa is pregnant again. We have been informed that the baby dies from an undetected heart problem and that it will be explained in a future book and that the baby Lisa is carrying in "Lawman" lives to a ripe old age.
Lisa to Cy..."That's right. Because you're not a 'summer soldier' like Thomas Payne wrote about. You're a winter soldier, fighting through blizzards. But you have to come back to me in one piece."
