2. Before Sunrise
Before Sunrise - Jeremiah Cortez and Phoebe Keller (2005)

Jeremiah Cortez is a 36years old at the start of the book in 1994. He is tall, lean and dark face with faint scares. He has large almond shaped eyes with short lashes. His mouth is wide and with thin lips, his chin has a stubborn jut. His hair is thick and jet black gathered into a ponytail that falls almost to his waist. He is Comanche and his hair style made him look sensual, wild and a little dangerous. He is working as a Federal prosecutor at this time.

Three years later he is back with the FBI investigating violent crime on Indian Reservations nationwide. He still has his long hair, he looks leaner & never looks like he smiles.

Phoebe Keller is a 23 year old college graduate of anthropology in the beginning of the book in 1994. She has long platinum blond hair that hangs down her back and has pale blue eyes. She is attractive despite her tomboyish appearance.

Three years later Phoebe is curator at a small Native American museum in Chenocetah, North Carolina. She has completed her master’s degree and dislikes man and never flirts. She has short hair a business like personality and dressed like a matron. She lives in a small cabin with her dog Jock .

3. Jeremiah Cortez thought he'd left the past behind him-especially the part of his past concerning Phoebe Keller. In her final year in college she stirred his world-weary soul. Now, three year's later, seeing the blond beauty again sparks dormant desires. But he has to push his emotions aside-he has ties that can't be broken, no matter how much he longs to reconnect with the determined, vivacious woman he once knew.

Phoebe thought her feelings for Cortez were buried as deep as the artifacts she studies in her museum. An expert in Native American culture, she has her doubts when an anthropologist claims to have discovered a Neanderthal skeleton on the nearby reservation. But before Phoebe can pursue the matter, the professor who called her turn's up dead in a local cave-and the FBI sends in Cortez to investigate.

No sooner does Cortez show up in Phoebe's office than the heat that's always simmered between them flares anew. Phoebe can't forget the heartbreak he caused, but neither can she deny the aching need he arouses with the merest touch. Now, as the two delve further into the murder, they find themselves entangled in a world of conspiracy, deception.....and a love more powerful than anything they've ever known.

4. Cortez is raising his nephew Joseph as his own son. Joseph is around two years old. Phoebe is expecting their first baby at the end of the story.

5. Phoebe has a watch dog name Jock that lives with her in the cabin.

6.Derrie is Phoebe’s aunt was a friend of Cortez until he broke off with her.

Marie Locklear is a coworker if Phoebe’s and is half Cherokee.

Drake Stewart is a deputy sheriff and is a cousin of Marie Locklear.

Christina (Tina) Redhawk is Cortez’s cousin and is watching Joseph while he’s on this assignment.

Cortez’s father Charles Redhawk is a shaman. He gave Phoebe a prayer wheel in 1994 just before Cortez broke off with her. Then when Cortez meets her again he gives her two silver coins and tells her where to carry them. He also calls Cortez to help him find Phoebe & also tells him she’s carrying his baby.

We also find out that Jermiah Cortez and Colby Lane (Lawman) are cousins

Contractors working around the reservation:

First is Jeb Bennett owner of Bennett Construction and his foreman ##### Walks Far. Second contractor working in area is Paul Cortland. The last contractor is either Ben Yardley (page 139) or Bob Yardley (page 140) he is a former police officer.

Fred Norton is a part time construction worker, pothunter, illegal art dealer that sold the effigy figure to Phoebe’s museum.

Claudia (Walks Far) Bennett is the blond hair, blue eyed sister of Jeb Bennett and also ##### Walks Far’s wife. She posed as a school teacher to question Phoebe. She also kidnaps her.

None if these people are in other books that I know of and no books for any of these secondary characters so far.

Alice Jones is on Cortez team and is a former classmate of Phoebe. She is in a number of books as a secondary character but no book of her own as of this point.

There are a number of law officers & doctors but they only have a line or two so I think of them as support not secondary Characters.

Love With a Long, Tall Texan-Guy Fenton

1) Publication Date-1999 ISBN-0-373-48379-1
Prologue to Guy: “See! How she leans her cheek upon her hand:
O! That I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek.”
By William Shakespeare

2) Characters-
Guy Fenton has dark hair, not a handsome man but he has a way with women, lean and lanky, gray eyes and is 30 (almost 31)(pages 11-12, 24). He works for the Ballenger brothers as a cowboy, but he owns his own company-an air cargo company, but he left that after his fiancée Anita died. Guy was flying the plane but was tired and didn’t do a good spot check and didn’t notice the engine problems until they were up in the air and she fell out of the plane and died (page 79). After that he moved to Jacobsville and he’s been there for 3 years (page 30). He has a married brother who lives in California and a married sister that lives in Washington (page 34). Guy is known in Jacobsville because every Saturday night he goes out and gets drunk (page 15). Guy still has nightmares of seeing Anita falling out of the plane (page 23). Guy was told my Justin Ballenger that he was to take the beef industry publicist who wants to visit several ranches to see the methods being used, and lately there has been bad publicity because of bacteria in beef (page 16). Guy was against this at first, but he soon grew fond of Candy.

Candace (Candy) Marshall is a pretty brunette, with big vulnerable brown eyes and is a freelance publicist (pages 24-25). Candy is from Denver, and has heard of the Hart boys biscuit mania (page 39). Candy is the only child, and her mother is still alive but her father is dead. Her father was shot to death 9 or 10 years ago, in a fast food place where Candy wanted to go for lunch. The guy who shot up the restaurant was someone who had been fired from the fast food place and took revenge during that day. Candy lost a lung and her mother holds Candy responsible for the death of Candy’s father and the two women are not close (pages 54-55). Candy still has nightmares about the attack at the fast food place (pages 46-47). Candy has asthma (which is worse with Candy only having one lung) and has a major attack (pages 86-87) with all the dust at the ranches she visits and Guy flies her to the hospital as she doesn’t have a doctor so she ends up going to see Drew Morris. Candy falls in love with Guy and finds out she can be the local cattlemen’s association publicist, which is great because Mrs. Harrison is doing that job right now and she doesn’t like it (page 124). Candy enjoys fishing and rodeo, things that Guy also enjoys (page 69).

Love With a Long, Tall Texan-Luke Craig

1) Publication Date-1999 ISBN-0-373-48379-1
Prologue to Luke Craig: That best portion of a good man’s life,
His little, nameless, unremembered acts
Of kindness and love.”
By William Wordsworth

2) Luke Craig is Elysia (Craig) Nash Walker’s brother, and in this story took place shortly after Elysia and Tom Walker were married (page 132). He is a rancher, who has had many problems-“falling beef prices, closed markets, crazy winters and bad fall harvests that required him to buy feed for his livestock over the winter.” But now there’s something he considers worse-a “summer camp for underprivileged city kids had opened right next door to his ranch, and he was having to come to terms with invaders who made the Mexican Army in 1836 look tame by comparison (page 131).” Luke is a lean and lithe man, wears an expensive wide-brimmed hat and hand-tooled boots with silver spurs. He’s incredibly handsome, with thick blond hair and blue eyes, firm mouth and a square jaw (page 134). Luke is against the kids and gives Belinda Jessup trouble about the kids, but he eventually warms up and bonds with Kells, one of the boys, as Kells takes to ranching. Luke has a tragic past, his mother was beaten every night by her husband who was a drunk, and Luke and Elysia were also abused as well (page 140). Luke was also in the army and fought in Desert Storm when his unit was called up (page 141).

Belinda Jessup is Ward Jessup’s sister and is a public defender (pages 135-136). Belinda has dark blond hair, green eyes and an outgoing personality (page 132). Belinda is leading this summer camp for the underprivileged kids to help them get out of juvenile hall and to start living their life obeying the law. Luke finally eases up and lets the kids (& Belinda) to come to his ranch to see his cattle, horses, etc. Belinda tells Luke about her mother, who was very promiscuous and left the family with one of her conquests and Belinda and Ward were stuck in town living down the gossip (pages 209-210).
Kells is one of the underprivileged kids in the summer camp, and he forms a bond with Luke. Kells is a 17 year old, and Belinda defended him with a shoplifting charge. “He has 5 brothers and sisters scattered around the country with various relatives.” His mother had moved with his mother and her boyfriend, but her boyfriend didn’t want Kells and his mother didn’t fight for him. “He had stolen a CD player on purpose to get back at her when her boyfriend had beaten him” (pages 144-145). At the end of the story we find out that Kells’ real name is Ed, he loves Eddie Murphy and so does Belinda and Luke (page 201). Kells ends up working for Luke as a cowboy (page 247).

3) Secondary Characters-
Chet Blake
Cy Parks-has his own story-The Winter Soldier
Ward Jessup mentioned-has his own story-Unlikely Lover
4) Pets-
They didn’t have pets, but Luke did own a ranch and we find out the difference between cows. Cows are the mothers of cows, heifers are unbred cows. Bulls are stud cattle, steers are neutered cattle raised for beef. Bulls won’t tolerate a steer and mother cows will fight them to protect their calves. “Calves have to be dehorned, branded, given their vaccinations, castrated if they’re to be beef cattle and tagged“ (pages 146-147).
Blurb from back of book:
They’re long and lean...and impossible to resist. Mavericks through and through. And they have all the ladies in Jacobsville swooning. But not just any women can tame theses rugged Texans and make them give up their bachelor ways. Because when these Long, Tall Texans fall in love, it’s for real, for life, no holds barred...
Luke Craig: The elusive bachelor. He won’t be lassoed-until the most infuriating lady he’s ever met careens into his life...

A Long Tall Texan Summer-Drew Morris

1) Publication Date-1997, ISBN-0-373-21838-9
Prologue to book: “This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath,
May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.”
By William Shakespeare, Romeo & Juliet
Prologue to Drew Morris: O, My Luve is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June.
O, My Luve is like a melodie,
That’s sweetly played in tune.”
By Robert Burns

2) Characters-
Drew Morris is a widower, having been married to the late Eve for 12 years until Eve passed away from cancer (page 143). Drew worked long hours, pretty much from dawn to dusk daily even Saturdays, and on Sunday afternoons he held a clinic for children (page 143). He did minor surgery and was always willing to stand in for other doctors at the local hospital (page 143). Drew’s face had deep lines and he was beginning to gray at the temples. He had been overweight when Kitty started working for him but due to his long hours he is now streamlined (page 167). Drew has no patience on the anniversary of Eve’s death with patients running for the door after their appointment. Kitty and Nurse Turner even drew straws to see who would get to leave early and who had to stay with Drew to close down the office at the end of the day (pages 170-177, 190). Drew didn’t realize he loved Kitty until Matt Caldwell told him (page 263).

Kitty Carson is an only child, whose parents are both dead, though her Mom died first. Kitty’s late father was a colonel of the green berets, a Vietnam veteran who had a bad habit of running people over (pages 144-145). Dr. Jeb “Copper” Coltrain knew Kitty when she was a little girl when she would trot behind her father, marching like a proper soldier (page190). Kitty didn’t date much because of her father, terrified the young men who wanted to date her (page 147). That is why Kitty was thrilled to go out on a date with Guy Fenton, but he flirted with another woman and Kitty left the movie theatre disappointed (pages 152-155). Kitty is an asthmatic (page 142) which can be a problem and she sometimes has to be hospitalized for it. She has dark hair (page 143), she likes dragons (page157), has green eyes and wears glasses (page 143). Drew started calling Kitty “Kitty Cat” at the office to the amusement of his little patients (page 159).

Eve Morris (deceased)-Eve had had blonde hair

Blurb from back of the book-
That Texas man was long and lean...and just ripe for loving on a hot summer night. But convincing him of that fact would be a difficult task indeed. Because men from Jacobsville, Texas, are a different breed, and tough to convince in matters of the heart. They are men of iron, men forged to long-lasting steel under the hot Texan sun.

Tom Walker...Drew Morris...Jobe Dodd...They grow ‘em tall in the saddle in Jacobsville. It’s a summer to remember, with men you won’t want to forget-all brand new and decked out for romance!

May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.”

He has a high school education, and some vocational education in animal husbandry (page 273). Jobe thought that Sandy was having delusions of grandeur, that Jacobsville wasn’t big enough for her, that she wanted big lights and the big city and suave company (page 284). His parents weren’t happy, so he had a rough childhood. Jobe’s mother was a scientist, who worked in nuclear research and she had several degrees. His father was a cowboy who knew the weather and animals and that was pretty much it. His mother made his father feel stupid and inadequate, and Jobe’s father shot himself when Jobe was 10. Sandy works in Victoria, Texas for Phillip Cranson programming computers, setting computers up for businesses, retrieving information that people thought they lost. Sandy will inherit a fortune from a trust fund when she turns 28, but will let their kids inherit her trust and live off of what she and Jobe earn together (pages 331, 360).

That Texas man was long and lean...and just ripe for loving on a hot summer night...But convincing him of that fact would be a difficult task indeed. Because men from Jacobsville, Texas are a different breed, and tough to convince in matters of the heart.
