She earns her living as a model. She left home when she was aged 14 due to un-wanted advances from her mother's new husband. She went to live with her aunt who taught her how to garden, swim and hunt. Shelby did not have to work she could have anything she wanted with a little flattery and pleading to her mother. But Shelby was proud and wanted to make her own way in life so had to fight for her independence away from her mother. Shelby is not a social animal and finds men terrifying. She likes to fly and has had ground training but never has enough time for flight training. KINGSTON BRANNT aged 32. A tall lean, well muscled man, with a dark complexion, dark hair and very dark eyes. He hate women since his ex-girlfriend left him for another man. He will not let anyone get too close to him and if they do his temper comes into play. He has no sense of humour and never smiles, most people find this very of putting. His whole life is wrapped up around his cattle; he thinks cattle are much better than people. He likes military bands and symphony orchestras. He has a very low opinion about Shelby and thinks she just like her mother will use her body and looks to get her anything she wants. 3) Storyline: Shelby is good friends with Danny and agrees to pretend to be engaged to him on a trip to his family ranch Skylance, so his family will back off trying to marry him off to a local girl. Shelby has been to skylance before and had a run in with Danny's brother Kingston. She is not looking forward to returning while Kingston's is there but Danny has told her he is away. Once they arrive Shelby realizes that Danny has lied about Kingston being away and sparks fly from the moment she gets out the car. Danny informs his family of his and Shelby's engagement which cause Kingston to become very angry. Kingston then tries to make Shelby break the engagement but seducing her and promising to tell Danny all about it. At the same time Danny and the local girl are seeing each other everyday. Shelby starts to fall in love with Kingston thinking he wants to have a relationship with her only to find out when his on/off girlfriend turns up it was all a game. Shelby runs home and trie! s to work herself to death over her lost love. Kingston turns up at one of her fashion shows and after a few more bumpy rides they discover there true feeling for each other. 4) Back-cover blurb: SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION Shelby Kane wouldn't let her friend's bossy brother Kingston run her off his family ranch again! A son named Matt and a daughter named Dana 6) Pets: None 7) Other Characters: DANNY BRANNT: - Kingstons younger brother by six years (aged 26). Danny is shorter, stockier, with light brown hair, green eyes (after his mother) with a pale complexion. He has a great sense of humour unlike his brother and never stops smiling. He does not take life seriously. He works as a lawyer but does a lot of free counselling, working in a legal aid society and is a crusader for equal rights. He does not have to work as he could get any job within the family mammoth holdings. But Danny is young, independent and likes law. KATE AND JIM BRANNT: - Parents to Kingston and Danny. MARY KATE CULHANE: - a slender wand, with green eyes and the personality of a seasoned game show host. She is not pretty, but she is vivacious and friendly as a puppy to everyone except Shelby. She is the daughter of a local rancher who is in love with Danny. Both set of parents see a ideal match in marring these two off. JANIE EDSON: - Kingston dates her on and off as a form of self protection. She's a long haired brunette with watery blue eyes, who can be very cool but venomous. MARIA KANE: - Marie is a famous actress who is known internationally. She is on her fourth marriage at the moment. She is Shelby's mother but tries to hide the fact that she has a grown up daughter. This would just add to her age and she wants to stay young. BRAD: - Marie Kanes fourth husband and Shelby's stepfather. He is very much in love with his wife even if she does not return that love. Edie Jackson: - Shelby's friend and roommate. She worries about Shelby going back to ranch after her run in with Kingston last time. Edie also works for Danny SANDY: - Kingston's ex whom left him for an insurance salesman's. This left Kingston very bitter. Shelby reminds Kingston of Sandy and how she threw him over. MRS DENTON: - the Brannt's housekeeper JIM DEYTON: - the Brannt's ranch manager MELISSA and GERIE: - daily maids at Marie Kanes home (Found in The Case of the Mesmerizing Boss)King and Shelby Brannt have two children a boy and girl, Dana and Matt both in high school now no ages given but talk says they are in there early teens. It also says that Shelby wished she had more than two children.. She is an innocent young lady with long black hair, a body that hold all the right curves (p6/20) and emerald eyes. She is between jobs at the moment following the break up of her engagement with Philip. At the age of 17 Maggie had tried to catch Clint's eye, by growing her hair long, shedding her favourite slack outfits for frilly sundresses and dainty sandals. To only have Clint say he was not interested. Maggie's only seemed to arouse Clint's temper. Maggie has always loved Clint but he does not return her feelings. Maggie has a soft spot for Brent (Clint's cousin) they grow up together and played lots of practical joke on Clint. Maggie feels safe with Brent he's her protector from Clint's temper. Maggie likes going to the ballet and listening to symphony music. Maggie also did two courses in university on archaeology and spent two months on digs. CLINT RAYGEN: - aged 31. A tall black haired man with pale green eyes, he's too rugged to ever be called handsome, but he draws women to him (p12). He has a long, jagged white scar which runs from the centre of his chest down his stomach. Another is visible on his thigh. The scars are souvenirs from long ago conflict and a shower of shrapnel he was hit by. Clint is very touchy about his scars and does not talk about them ever. His life is his ranch. He loves country and western music and storms the wilder the better. He has a very short temper which Maggie always seems to see every time they meet. Clint has been in love with Maggie since she was 17 but has fort it every minute. He does not believe in love or marriage but knows deep down that is the only way he can have Maggie. Clint calls Maggie 'Irish' most of the time. 3) Storyline: After the break up of her relationship Maggie Kirk's friend Janna Raygen talks her into going to stay on her family ranch to heal. She can be Clint Raygen's temporary secretary for a few weeks because his had up a left without any notice. Maggie grew up knowing Clint but they rub each other the wrong way all the time which causes tension. Once on the ranch Maggie finds out that Clint's relationship has also ended. As each day passes Maggie and Clint fight and argue with each other more and more. They also begin to notice each other romantically but both fight it. It all comes to an end when Clint comes home from a trip informing Maggie that a friend they both know had died (Duke). He leaves Maggie a letter with a trip to archaeology site around the world. That same night Maggie and Clint fight again and the sexual tension hits fever point followed by harsh words. Maggie leaves the ranch to go on her trip without telling anyone, only to be involved in a car accident! before getting on the boat. Maggie wakes up in hospital unable to move. Clint is there to help her through the pain, the waiting and emotional willing for her to walk again. Clint takes her back home to heal and maybe this time around they will find that happy ending that happy ending that everyone wants for them. 4) Back-cover blurb: FALLING FOR THE ENEMY Wholesome Maggie Kirk had always been wary of austere cowboy Clint Raygen. Brent knows that Maggie is in love with Clint, but knows Clint could hurt her in the long run. Brent knows how it feels to love someone from afar and not have the love returned. PHILIP: - Maggie's ex-fiancé. She split with him when she caught him with one of the bridesmaids after the rehearsal going into a motel room together. LIDA PALMES: - Clint's ex-fiancée who walked out on him without a word. She found herself a rich Florida millionaire who was much older than her. DUKE MASTERSON: - a fortyish, rather attractive and charming man who turns up at the ranch for the cattle sale. He has a large cattle ranch near Austin as well as real estate and oil holdings. Duke and Maggie hit it of right from the start. We later find out he is dying of cancer. GERRY BROOME: - he took a shine to Maggie and tried to have his wicked way with her. Clint came across them and hit the younger man in the nose. SARAH MEDE: - a tall, slender, beautiful blond who is all grown up now and turning into a siren. Who is now chasing Clint? EMMA: - Clint Raygen's housekeeper. She's a much older woman who everyone loves. BILLY JONES: - Clint Raygen's foreman.
