2) Characters:
SIMON HART: - almost 40 yrs old. He's handsome, has a deep velvet voice, thick wavy black hair on a leonine head, dark eyebrow and pale grey eyes. Simon is tall and well built a dynamo of a man. Simon is one of five brothers who are well known in the cattle circles for the ranch properties they own. He's filthy rich and looks it but money cannot make up for the loneliness he feels everyday. Simon is the former state attorney general of Texas and a nationally know trail lawyer.
Simon lost his first wife in a car crashed he caused. They had been fighting over Melina telling Simon she had aborted the child she had been carrying as she had not been sure if it was Simon's or one of her lovers. Melina died instantly when they crashed but Simon had been trapped and had to have his left arm amputated to save his life. He has to wear a prosthesis arm which he hates but it disguises his handicap.
Simon has known Tira from when she nursed him back to health after the car crash. He fought the desire he felt for her by pushing her and his friend John into marriage. When the marriage fell apart and John died Simon began to despise Tira thinking she was cold and unfeeling.

TIRA BECK: - 28 yrs old. A tall, beautiful woman with long glorious re-gold hair that falls to her waist, pale green eyes and a figure right out of a fashion magazine. Tira could have been a model but surprisingly she is very shy.
Tira lives a very hectic lifestyle doing charity work and is independently wealthy.
She is divorced but has little to do with men except on a platonic basis. There are not many friends also mainly Simon Hart and Charles Percy. Many people including Simon think that Charles and Tira are lovers because they spend so much of there free time together.
Tira is a sculpture but has not done it for a while. So decides to take it back up again when she tries to re-structure her life. Once she begins to sculpt again she is talked into doing a show at a local gallery.
Tira is in love with Simon but he does not return the love. So Tira decides to change her life, she sells her ranch, moves house all in the hope of avoiding Simon.
Tira is allergic to animal fur. She also finds it hard to throw things away, so just keeps them around the house.

3) Storyline:
Tira Beck has been in love with Simon Hart for years but he has never returned the feelings towards her. Simon blames Tira for the death of his friend John, Tira's ex-husband. John had killed himself because he could not come to terms with his sexuality. One day Tira decides to give up on Simon and breaks all ties which bring her into contact with him. She buys a new home, takes up sculpting once again and tries to move on with her life. One night while drunk Tira tries to shoot a mouse that has taken up house in her home but passes out on the bed. Her housekeeper finds her the next day unconscious and holding a gun. Tira is rushed to hospital were unknowing to her Simon turns up and finds out she had been in love with him for years. Simon blames himself for what has happened and tries to re-build his relationship with Tira. For every step forward they take in there new relationships they move back two due to not believing in each other. Will they find a happy endi!
ng or will they spend the rest of their lives fighting what could be.

JOHN BECK: - best friend to Simon and the ex-husband of Tira. John was only married to Tira for a month before ending the marriage. He later died when he fell from an oil rig in the North Atlantic. John had hid a secret from Simon all his life. Simon only finds out years later that john had been homosexual.
CHARLES PERCY: - described as a playboy, he's a very close companion of Tira's some even say her lover. Charles is only Tira's friend as he is in love with his sister-in-law. Tira is the only person who knows this.
MELIA HART: - Simons first wife who died in a car crash eight years ago. The same crash causes Simon to lose part of his arm. The night Melia died she had been fighting with Simon in the car, she had just told him she had aborted the baby she was carrying as she did not know if it was his or one of her lovers.
CORRIGAN HART: - One of Simons four brothers, he's the third oldest, he has a limp left over from an accident years ago its not too noticeable now and he does not even require a cane. MRS LESTER: - Tira's housekeeper
DR RON GAINS: - old family friend and Tira's doctor. He treats her after her housekeeper finds her unconscious and holding a loaded gun. He knows all Tira's secrets about her marriage and her love for Simon.
JILL SINCLAIR: - a socialite, twice divorced and wealthy, short black hair, dark eyes and a figure that drew plenty of interest.
GENE MARLOWE: - Charles's half brother, tall man and severe looking with thinning grey hair.
NESSA MARLOWE: - Charles's sister-in-law, tiny, blonde and lovely but has very tragic brown eyes. Charles is secretly in love with her and has been for a long time.
LILLIAN DAY: - gallery manager.
HARRY BECK: - John's father and Tira's father-in-law. He never blamed her for John's death, because he knew his son had faults and could not cope with life.
MRS MACKEY: - Simons middle aged secretary
WALLACE BINGLEY: - Governor of Texas/
SHERRY WALKER: - a mutual friend of Simon's and Tira's. She has season tickets for the opera which she is unable to use due to a broken leg.
MISS CHASE: - the governor's private secretary who is sent to help organizes Simon's and Tira's wedding. She and the Hart brothers clash over what to have and what not to have.

2) Characters:
DIEGO LAREMOS: - aged 40. He has elegant good looks, with a fit muscular body, thick dark hair, black eyes and a moustache (p10). He's not an arrogant man but has a cold quiet authority about him, never raises his voice. When he was younger he was very mysterious often disappeared for weeks at a time and sometimes came home with scars to his face or a limp.
His childhood had been very unhappy, he felt alone, frightened and sad, because his father had never truly loved him or his mother.
Diego was very attracted to Melissa from a young age but would never act upon it until one day fate changed everything for them.
Diego's family hates Melissa's father he stole Diego's father's future bride the night before the wedding. So they blame all their family grief on Edward Sterling.
He now works for Apollo teaching tactics and defensive driving to the chauffeurs of the very rich.

MELISSA STERLING: - aged 26. She has a gentle face, slender body but tall, wavy blonde hair that curves around her oval face. (p10) Has big grey soft eyes which are a delicate contrast to her blonde fairness. Melissa's mother died when she was very young so was raised by her father who spoilt her a lot. Melissa liked to build dreams around her when she was younger about what type of life she and Diego could have. Melissa's father tried to worn about Diego when she was 20yrs old, by telling her he made his living as a professional soldier. Melissa felt all her dreams were over but when fate played a hand in her future she took it even if it was to end in tears.
Melissa had loved Diego so much that even five years later she still held some form of love for him. But she feels she can never tell him her secret, that Mathew is his child the one she told him she had lost.
For the last five years she had lived poor making sure Mathew got everything she could afford and going without herself.
Melissa has held on to pictures, bookmarks, dried flowers that Diego gave her, which shows she still loves him even after all what has happened to her.

3) Storyline:
Melissa had grown up living next door to Diego. For years she had been in love with him from afar hoping one day he would marry her. Those dreams do not come true until one day a guerrilla attack near the ranch causes Diego to reuse Melissa. They have to hide out in the jungle until it is safe to return home. During that short time of hiding Diego and Melissa become lovers. They are found by Melissa's father who insists that Diego marry Melissa. They marry but Diego hates Melissa for putting him in such a position so he leaves her with his family. They make her life hell from the very first day. When Diego returns home Melissa and him fight which causes Melissa to run and have an accident. Diego is later told Melissa has lost the baby she was carrying and that Melissa has disappeared. Five years on Diego is called to a hospital because his wife has been in a plane crash. At first Diego finds it hard to be around her when he finds out she has a small child. But da!
y by day he begins to see they could have a future together if he could get over Melissa having someone else's child. As Diego slowly puts the pieces together of his and Melissa's past and now their future he comes to the conclusion, the child Melissa has could be his. What will the future hold for them if both Diego and Melissa cannot tell the truth about what happened five years ago?

JUANA: - Diego's sister, she disapproves and dislikes Melissa once she is married to Diego. Her dislike is brought about by a fear of her grandmother. She begins to feel sorry for Melissa later on.
MATHEW: - Melissa's son and also Diego's son but in the beginning he does not know this. Melissa lied about losing the baby she was having so she could escape from Diego and hide out in America.
HENRIETTA GRADY: - Melissa's neighbour who cares for Mathew while she works.
MRS ALBRIGHT: - a middle aged sweet faced heavyset women with a great personality who takes care of Diego's apartment. When Melissa moves in she becomes the babysitter to Mathew as well.
J.D. BRETTMAN: - Board face with an olive complexion and deep set eyes. Black hair which is thick and has a deep wave in it, threaded with pure silver. He has faint scares on his face which age him. Also an ex-mercenary, who is now a famous criminal lawyer. (From the book 'Soldier of Fortune' 1985, also been in 'The Tender Stranger'1985)

JOYCE LATHAM: - Apollo's new secretary. She's a west Indian lady, lovely eyes deep and black as bottomless pools, has a coffee and cream complexion. Has long hair that is a little unkempt and poor dress sense. Joyce and Apollo have a love hate relationship.

Jake Wells (p 8) is Carson Wayne’s foreman. Carson occasionally gets into brawls that Jake gets Mandelyn to take Carson from, Mandelyn moved to Arizona with her Uncle Dan after her fiancé died (personal tragedy (11)).

Story background:
Carson’s mom ran away when he was 4 years old because she couldn’t live with his father any longer. Carson’s dad hit him when he did something his dad didn’t like (41). When Carson out weighed his dad by 50 pounds he could fight back (42). Carson explained to Mandy that he’s never been gentle because he never knew what it was like to be treated gently & that he is lonely & he doesn’t know how to court a woman (42). He was 14 years old when he could fight his dad back & the beatings stopped, but the damage had already been done (43). He hired a construction company to do some badly needed renovations to his house (44). He asked Mandy to teach him some manners (45). He hinted that he wanted to civilize himself into a gentleman because there was a woman he wanted (46). Carson was devasting physically even his craggy face was appealing, if it were shaved and his hair trimmed (50). Carson’s transformation begins with new clothes, hair cut & shave (51). Carson plays guitar like an expert (164). Carson wrote a love song called "Choices" that he wrote for Mandy and himself (246).

Eric James Van Meer (p 75) aka Dutch, tall frame, deep brown eyes (7), didn’t like women (8), muscular physique, blond hair & a face that looked positively hostile. He had nice hands that were very clean, tanned, strong looking with scars on the back of them (pgs. 7, 8). Broad chest, hadn’t been interested in women for quite a few years, except to satisfy an infrequent need (9, 10). Over 6 feet tall (12). His parents were Dutch (13). Smokes cigarettes (25). He wasn’t a hairy man, but there was a wedge of curling dark blond hair over the darkly tanned muscles of his chest and stomach. His legs feathered with it too. Long, powerful legs in cutoff denim shorts (30). He had hard lines on his face, the faint scarring on one cheek. (39) His upper lip was thin, his bottom one was wide and sensuous (44). Dani thought he was handsome. He was muscular, graceful and with the face of a Greek statue, male perfection in the finest sense. (56) He is 36 years old (65). Dutch was born & raised in the Netherlands. Utrecht, Holland until he was in his teens when he joined the service. (75) Wouldn’t take Dani’s virginity unless she promised to marry him the next morning. (74) Dutch’s mercenary specialty is logistics, but he is handy with small arms as well & something of a reputation with a knife that he made himself. (147)
Danielle St. Clair aka Dani flyaway brown hair (7). Wire rimmed glasses (7, 8). Looked as chaste as a nun with her nervous eyes & hands. Long fingers, very graceful, and no polish. They were hands of a lady. It irritated him that he noticed & he glared at her. She had fire, Dutch realized, she was feisty (10). She laughed softly & it changed her face. With the right cosmetics & a hair cut that didn’t leave her soft hair unruly & half wild, she might not be bad-looking. Wide bow-shaped mouth, straight nose, wide spaced pale grey eyes, heart shaped face & a stubborn chin, 5'6" tall (12).Owns a book store in Greenville, SC. Lost both parents while small (13). She said she needed to lose 20 pounds. Dutch thought she was a little overweight, but not fat, just nicely rounded. He almost told her so, but then he remembered what treacherous creatures were, and bit back the hasty words (14). He did have deep feeling for Tabby when they were youngerbut,, but she unknowingly turned him down .

She wears clothes that are stylish but not sexy. She is a professor of Anthropology at Thorn College in Washington D.C.She has loved Nick since childhood, and mistakenly thought he came home at New Years to proprose, He told her he was interested, she was devestated.

Hero- Logan Deverelle(age 35)He has thick, dark black hair,dark brown eyes, high cheekbone on a darkly tanned face. He has a huge frame, powerful chest, and board face.He smokes cigarillo's. He is the boss at the family owned investment firm. He is seeing a mean, spiteful , golddigger who treats everyone rudely and like they are beneath her, without Logan seeing it.

Heroine- Kit Morris(age 25) She has short black hair, big blue eyes, and an oval face. She has a tall slender figure. Kit has worked for Logan for the last threee years, and loved him form afar. She told him his lastest flame was a golddigger and he fired her. Kit then goes to work for Lassiter Detective Agency as a detective.

*Hero-Richard Dane Lassiter(age 34), was called Dane by everyone. Tall & lithe. Built like a rodeo rider, square shoulders, lean hips, and long powerful legs.He has black hair and olive tanned skin, handsome but unaware.
Owner of the Lassiter Detective Agency in Houston and the Lassiter Bar-D Ranch in Branntville. He was a Houston police officer turned Texas Ranger, until he was shot during a bank robbery.He had been married to Jane then, but she left and diorvced him when he was injured and couldn't be an Ranger again. Dane found out she was only attracted to the "uniform" and was having an affair with his ex- parnter from the police force.

*Heroine-Teresa Meriwether(no age given) called Tess for short.She has soft grey eyes,long pale blonde hair,softly rounded chin, and long legs. Was thought to be to thin.
She was Dane's secretary at the Lassiter Detective Agency. Were almost step-siblings, their parents were to be married, but were killed in an accident before the wedding. She loved Dane form afar, taking care of him when he had been shot,until he made a heavy pass at her. She has been keeping him at arms length ever since. One night after she had left work, she seen some men"drug dealers" pass money for drugs, and feeling threatened they shot her in the arm. Dane then takes her to his ranch and takes care of her during her recoupration.

Long, Tall Texans: That Burke Man

1) Publication Date-2001 (My copy is in the Long, Tall Texans book)
ISBN-0-373-48728-3

2) Characters-
Todd Burke is the president of a computer company and has made millions (pages 329-330). He is divorced from Marie, and has been for the last 6 years (it was a messy divorce), and they had been married for 8 years and they have a daughter Cherry who is 14 (page 329). Todd and Cherry are from Wyoming, and relocated to Texas. Todd doesn’t tell Jane what he does for a living when Cherry tells Jane that Todd can keep books, so he gets the job as business manager, and then Jane can help Cherry with her turns on her horse (pages 346-347). Todd has thick fair hair, gray eyes in a lean face (page 332), he wears glasses (page 360) and he‘s 35 (page 361). When Todd was still married to Marie he had pneumonia once, not realizing how serious his cold had become, and Marie had left him to go to a cocktail party with his best friend. She had put his antibiotics away and he was too sick to look for them, and by the time Marie got home he was delirious with fever and very nearly died (pages 361-362).

Jane Parker used to be a rodeo champion, but she had a “crippling” accident, so she doesn’t ride anymore. Her father wrecked the car (he died instantly) but Jane was pinned in the car for 3 hours. They originally thought she had broken her back, but it was a herniated disc. It’s very painful, takes a while to heal and she will always have pain from this. Right after the accident she couldn’t even walk, and they thought she might be paralyzed, but she worked at physical therapy until the doctors grinned (page 338). Jane owns a ranch, but ever since her father died (her mother has been deceased for a while page 338). it’s been losing money over fist (page 346) and she hires Todd to be business manager (page 347). Jane is close to Dr. Jeb “Copper” Coltrain (Coltrain’s father was Jane’s Godfather-page 353). Copper and his partner Dr. Louise Blakely don’t get along in this story. Jane has blond hair and blue eyes (pages 331-332), she is 25 (pages 335 & 361) and she likes to read history books (page 401). A clothing company (SlimTogs leisure wear) wants Jane to endorse a new clothing line for rodeo style clothing. Jane found out the truth about Todd and his business from his ex-wife Marie, who also decided to give Jane a hard time (pages 444-447).

Cherry Burke is a fourteen year old girl (page 329) and lives with Todd as he has custody of her. Marie and her new husband were too busy with their business to raise Cherry, and Marie didn’t approve of Cherry barrel racing and her fascination with rodeo (page 329). Cherry takes after Todd with fair hair, gray eyes and will be tall (page 330). Cherry freezes before she takes her turn on her horse (page 330) as she has a fear of the turns, but gains self confidence with Jane tutoring her. Cherry would like to be a surgeon when she grows up (page 346).

He, as the rest of the family, has a mania for biscuits at any time.
