"Amelia Book Discussion"
Amelia was afraid of her father. His violent outbursts were getting worse. Amelia had always admired King from afar and since her father wanted her married into the powerful Culhane family, Amelia kept her distance from King. Alan, the mild mannered younger brother was the one her father wanted for Amelia. King wanted Amelia and took great pains to make sure she knew it and that he would never allow her to marry Alan. King's temper and arrogance almost cost Amelia her life. What do you think of Amelia and King's story? How do you feel about the way King manipulated the situation?
Give your thoughts on this book filled with passion and pain.

I think King was interested from the first...but his way of fighting it was to be "hard".
He really had no idea of the volatile state of Amelia's father... so when he to told him that she'd "been overly friendly"... he just didn't understand the repercussions.![]()
Whether he did enough to redeem himself ....No, she could have died all for the sake of his pride.![]()

Reading Amelia I could sense how afraid Amelia was of her father as his outbursts were getting worse. It had to be harder for her having her brother living away and having to deal with their father by herself. I hated the way King manipulated the situation because manipulation is horrible but also because she could have died because of his actions. He could have found a better way to get Amelia out of his brother's arms and into his own. Though I think he learned his lesson about arrogance.

I've really loved this book.
Diana gave his hero and heroine an incredible strenght and an amazing intesity.
You can really "feel" Amelia's fear of her father while you are reading this book.
At the same time you can realize how depht of King's feelings.
You can "feel" his suffering while he tries to struggle and deny his love for Amelia. Love is beyond all bearing for him. That's why he tries to hate her, with all the strenght he has.I think that, even when Amelia is almost dead on the floor, and he knows that it is all his fault, he still fight her.

I loved this book as well. I also was so angry at King...fine he is fighting his feelings but why take them out on Amelia..she didn't ask for his love. Then to seduce her and then treat her like dirt and then more or less tell her father? Come on! In those times he KNEW the reaction would not be good. Unfortunatley for Amelia, King did not know just how bad they would be. In my opinion King should have had to do alot more talking abd asking for forgiveness than he did. Even from all I have just said it is a great book...wish I'd had the iron skillet handy( the infamous one we all share here on the board for the male characters that make us mad in these books) when I read this the first time. I think King deserves at least 2 whacks upside the head. ![]()
I thought it might be necc. to explain the "Iron skillet " to those of us who are new to this board.

To me Amelia is one of Diana's most heartbreaking stories. All the abuse Amelia went Thur from her once loving father to King being responsible for Amelia's last beating that ended her fathers life.
I loved how Amelia showed her true colors after her fathers death and stood up to King. I still laugh over her throwing the water carafe at Kings head.Alert | IP Printer-friendly page | Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I felt Amelia's fear and anguish. I didn't understand King's anger at all. I think this book was written more about Amelia's feelings than King's because I knew what she was thinking more than I knew what King was thinking. When I first started reading Quinn's story, I thought he should have his own book so I could understand the whole thing, but Diana wrote him in the book so perfectly that I know his and Maria's whole story.Diana's writing on this was great. I loved Amelia and King and loved the fact that they are mentioned in "Nora".

. But at least he realize what he fell for her. But I think I would've rather see her shake up Alan the King at least he was nicer to her all through the book.

I agree with AMy. THis was one of her most heartrending stories. To have to hide her true self and be the object of ridicule from the man you are in love with and then he be the cause of you nearly dying was gut wrenching. He did not do enough to redeem himself with her. He should have been on his knees groveling for days. Then to find out she was pregnant by the man who had so betrayed her-you know she was a strong person to be abel to forgive him and continue to love him after what he had caused her to go through. I have mixed feelings about this book.
I really enjoyed the storyline and setting, and I have a soft spot for the Culhane family. Amelia went through so much, it was really easy to sympathise with her and feel her pain.
My biggest problem was with King. He was so arrogant and so angry and so jealous and SO ALPHA all of the time, it overwhelmed the other facets of his character. If you read a person's nature by their actions, I would not like him at all. He didn't do enough to redeem himself in the end. I am not sure whether I would bother denting my skillet on his thick skull...
I wish Alan's story is in the pipeline soon.Efy

I agree he had alot more grovelling to do then he did. He should've been kissing her feet begging for forgiveness. Christyle McCoy
