"After the Music...."

   Back page blurb..

Just Kidding.....

It all started as a joke. Sabina was only pretending to be engaged to her best friend, millionaire Al Thorndon. Al had talked her into this scheme as a wat to trick his older brother, Thorn. Al had no choice but to lie, and to make Sabina his accomplice..

Sabina thought that it would be just for one night. When Thorn accused her of being a gold digger, Sabina just laughed it off. She didn't think of the repercussions- that Thorn would dig up her long buried secrets. Revealing them now would destroy everything she's worked so hard to put behind her.. But she couldn't let her best friend down, could she??

I just loved this story! I cried when Thorn revealed her secret in front of everyone. It was cruel.

He made me angry alot during this book. His actions, altho to him, they seemed justified beacause he couldn't figure her out therefore it MUST be ok to be a bonehead to her, just weren't right. However I do believe once he knew the whole truth it really hurt him as to what he said and did.

I loved how she stood up to him and spoke the truth to everyone, even tho they had no right to hear it, she is a very strong person and I for one was very proud of her reaction to his actions...BRAVO!

I did like the book...lol

This is one of my top ten DP books - I love it. I read it a few times per year.

Several reasons:
* Mainly because the domineering male gets his come-uppance and there is enough grovelling at the end to satisfy me.
* Great sexual tension. The chemistry between Thorn and Sabina just sizzles.
* Sabina is a very likeable leading lady. Sometimes DP's heroines can border on too naive and unbelievable, but not this one.
* Climactic confrontation - the scene where he humiliates her at her own engagement party after she sings the opera aria. The first time I read it - I remember my jaw hitting the ground... I hated Thorn, but he recovered well. And you know he wouldn't do those awful things without some strong & deep feelings. The near-miss of thinking she's marring his brother, then her coma, was suitable agony for him.

   Sabina
a beautiful talented, kind hearted woman who has had such an emotionally disturbing childhood, she doesn't want to allow herself to love any man. (Especially rich men with their "play things").

Thorn,
An arrogant, almost hateful man. VERY rich. The worst kind of man in Sabina's eyes.

Al & Jessica. - Sabina's best friends. Jessica knew all about Sabina's history, Al is Thorns younger brother.

the first time I read this story I cried at the Engagement scene, I thought that there was NO way this man could ever redeem himself..
But after re-reading a number of times, I think -
Al & especially Jessica should have realised just what Thorn could do to Sabina, even when she kept telling them everything was OK.
They were afraid of Thorn so why they didn't step in a cancel the "arrangement", especially when Sabina told Jessica she had fallen in love...

Thorn himself was "emotionally" crippled himself due to things which happened to him when he was younger.. but he himself admitted he was like his father... That made me angry because he KNEW what his father's attitude did to his Mother... I think he was afraid to love because he saw how destructive it had been to his Mother....

One of my most favourite books... it has high sexual tension between the main characters...
It has one of the must gut wrenching scenes (at the engagement party) that Ms Palmer has ever written.
(almost as bad as when Crissy handed Judd his wedding ring back in lawless )...

But the support characters, supposedly best friends of Sabina annoyed me for not realising what a dangerous emotional situation they were putting her in...

I also liked the part where Thorn showed that he really was human by buying Sabina's friends Christmas gifts. No "trinkets" ---but things they really needed. When he said that he didn't have any friends, it helped put his situation in a little better perspective and made the fact that they were getting together alot easier to accept.

I agree that Diana does a great job with the tension between her characters. I think that is what I like best about her books.

I would love to see her write a book where she flip-flops the roles and has the man chasing the woman---someone who is more alpha and doesn't think she needs a relationship. A little less naivete and a lot more self-assured, goal oriented, etc. but meets her match and realizes there is more to life with someone to love.

Sorry I'm late.

I had completely forgotten this book and I'm so glad it was this months book discussion.

Everytime Sabina and Thorn were alone talking I was pushing them in my mind.."Just say the words!" When Thorn was telling her to give the ring back to Al, I started yelling "Just tell her why!!" You could feel it on the tips of both of their tongues!!

Yes, lots of tension. I was very angry with Thorn but I also felt his pain when he saw her in a coma and when he was first rejected by her when he proposed.

I'm going to keep this book close by from now on.

Mimi

Boy...you got it right about Sabina's friends. You sort of wondered about them. I understood her desire to help her friends, but...un uh...there is a point. AL knew his brother was icy cold...yet, he went ahead and used Sabina. And Jessica who knew the truth about Sabina's past should have use HER head and realized what power Thorn had and how he could use it to destroy a person in his way. Good Grief...think of the innocent person here!!!!

Other than that irritating me, I loved the book...alway did. You wanted to take Thorn and Sabina and knock their heads together and tell them to wake up! And of course, I melt at the ending.

This is another couple I would love to hear about...like we get to hear about our LTT in other books. Did she sing while getting pregnant? LOL

Thorn made me so angry through out the book I wanted Tippy's skillet to hit him upside the head with. He was so cold. He did redeem himself when he bought Sabina's friends coats, etc. that they needed and could use. And when he stayed at the hospital after she was injured.

I wanted Sabina to just tell Thorn what was going on and to just say the words!
