"Magnolia Book Discussion"
What do you think of John and Claire's story? Do you think "true love" can come from a marriage of honor when one still love's an old flame? Can a young woman overcome the constant humiliation of the man she loves dearly? In the end can the truth be found and give not only John his freedom but help him find his love for Claire?????????? I like the fact that motorcars were rare and how people reacted to those who drove them, and what they thought of cars-that they would never be the new form of transportation. I felt for Claire and her humiliation knowing John married her to save face, to get people to stop talking about him and Diane. I can only imagine the pain she went through thinking he would never love her and how much she loved him. I know John felt unfaithful to Diane and then he felt shame for those feelings as he then had feelings for Claire.

Im not really a hisrorical fiction fan. I have a back log of DPs books to read and this was one of them so seeing as Kay had put it up for discussion I got it out sunday morning and started to read and had to read it all before putting it down!!!
I really enjoyed the book the characters were great, poor Claire to know that the man you adore wants another woman would be hell but hell for John too to love another and marry someone else. You do however get the feeling from the start that John has some feelings for Claire and that things might develop. The era was a time of change and it was interesting to see how they affected the people in those times.
One historical romance I will definatly read again another great Diana Read

I forgot all about Claire and John's story. I remembered the motorcar but I forgot everything else. It was refreshing to re-read it. Even though I knew in the end Claire will get her man, I felt John's love for her grow in the way Diana wrote this story. His crude outburst after their first intimacy was heart felt because she did wound him with her words. Don't get me wrong! I wanted to smack John as hard as I could! but Diana's writing on this book really made me see the inside of Claire and John. Boy, Claire was a handful wasn't she? And I liked it that she could make John feel like a kid! It was an "A" on my score card.
