I remember roughly the book is about an English commander who fell in love with a sweet girl. He went off to war and during that time, he met a call girl who claimed that she is barren. Later when he came home, he married the girl of his dream and live in a masion with his dogs. By the time he got married, his title was reinstated so he then known as a Duke. Once this news pass thru the towns, his "mistress" came looking to him. She clamied that she is his rightly wife as they were married during his time fighting. He later found out the marriage to this mistress was a hoax that she set up with her cousin to make him married her as she knew that he came from money. At the time, she pretended to be on deathbed and force his hand to marry her due to the baby she gave birth to and claimed that it was his. The baby bore a resemblence birth mark to him on the butt cheek. Anyway, to make it short, the Duke later discovered that he baby belong to one of his relative who was robbed and the baby was stolen. The nany that came with the baby was the one who stole the baby because hers was dead. This is all that I can remember so any help from you guys would greatly appreciated.
