"Book Covers"

   Hi everyone!

I haven't been on in awhile. Life was thrown at us when my 55 year old husband was laid off in March. Wow what changes we have gone through. We were lucky to sell our home and are soon moving into a new townhome. I'm going to miss not having a yard and flowers. I went back to work...I haven't worked in over 8 years. My husband and I are still married!!! We were together almost everyday until last week, when I started working, in a small apartment. Well life goes on.

My question to you all is... Do you like the bookcovers when there is a picture of the man or woman on it; or do you prefer just flowers, or a profile of a man or woman or just a colorful cover?

I find that I prefer just colors or flowers or profile pictures. When there is actually a picutre of a man or woman, I find it hard to relate the hero/heroine to the picture on the cover. I guess I just like to create my own image. Let me know your thoughts.

Have a great day!
Robin

I agree with you I like to take the description of the author and make my own image, so I prefer a cover that has a field of flowers, cattle or a man/womans image only.

Yes, I like a simple cover but my reasons are different. My husband, in-laws and friend make fun of my books. They start acting like cave people. Danny play-acts and says, I am great eagle get into the tepee and make me some food before I have to beat you. My brother in-law just put their spin on it as well. I wont even mention what my friend call them. So, I prefer a simple cover where I don't have to hide the front.

Sorry, to hear about your husband losing his job. I am glad that you are still together. Finances are a big problem with couples and if you could stay together more power to you. You sound in good spirits. It is true that the Lord will always provided.

Letty

HHHMMM...both. There are some that I can instantly see in my mind and the cover is just a beautiful scene. But, sometimes, I really like to see the couple because for the life of me...I cannot imagine them in my wee brain.

Of course, some of the older covers, the publishers did have some really dishy looking guys...and eye candy does not cause cavities, can be good for blood pressure (if it is running low), and just makes one smile.

I don't mind the covers with people (as long as they are clothed )

What I hate are the ridiculous titles, like say---Bedded for the Billionaire's Pleasure, or Virgin Mistress under Duress, or The Rich Man's Housekeeper Mistress,.......

Those make me want to gag! Never have I wanted to buy one of those books for the titles, and usually don't buy them----because of the titles.

At least Diana has sense enough to name her books something decent so that when I am reading in my children's dentist or doctor office, I don't have to hide the cover!

Boy...isn't that the truth. SOme of those titles....*crosses eyes*...you wonder WHY the author lets them go like that.

Of course, there are some poses on covers, I wonder exactly WHAT they are doing...and HOW????

I'm sorry to hear about your husband losing his job, but thankfully you were able to find a job. Hopefully he finds a new job soon.

For the book covers, sometimes I'm like Jody and like seeing the couple as sometimes I can't imagine them in my wee brain. But for the couple I only like it when they look how they are described in the story. For example, I don't like it when there is a blonde on the cover and in the story she's a brunette or red head. But I also like covers with flowers, etc.

I don't like the covers that are indecent (ya'll know what I'm talking about).

I prefer the covers with people on them because it gives me a glimps of what they might look like. Although the yellow roses and cowboy hats are nice too.

My favorites are both but in a certain way. Take "Amelia". The cover is plain with just her name across it but open the cover and she is there on the inside flap. This give me a better idea of what to look for or how to imagine her.
It also hides the fact that it's a "Romance Novel". I get gentle teasing at home but co-workers look at me funny.

I am sorry your husband lost his job, but it seems like you took it in stride, not everyone can. God Bless. I love beautiful covers, it dosen't matter if there are people on the cover (as long as they match the description of them in the book). I have read books where the covers are not the descriptions of the characters. DP, has great covers, I don't think I didn't like any of them. As for people making fun of me reading romances, at work they think I am a bumble brain! When I read my books at lunch or break time I am snickered at. Does it bother me? No, I just think they have little minds themselves. I listen to the news, read the newspapers, stay abreast of current events, etc. Romances just happen to be my favorite thing. I think a true reader has a gift given by someone special. My gift giver was my Grandmother, she loved them as much as I!
